Enjoy different neighbourhood celebrations, view art installations, tour heritage sites and take part in recreational activities at multiple times and venues across the city. Winterfest is celebrating its 40th year in Hamilton and the fun all comes to a grand finale on Family Day. If you’re into ice fishing, Valens Lake’s annual Ice Fishing Derby returns on Feb.17, from sunrise until 2 p.m. with tons of prizes to be won! Prizes will be awarded for the three largest pan fish caught for adults and children. Species are bluegill, crappie and perch. Enjoy hot drinks and BBQ items to keep the fishing family going. For Canadian residents a fishing license not required as it takes place on Ontario’s license free fishing weekend! Entry into the derby is $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 years and under. Explore a fascinating piece of Hamilton history at Dundurn National Historic Site on Family Day! Take a guided tour of over 40 rooms in Dundurn Castle, discover what it was like to live and play above stairs and work and live below stairs. Visitors will enjoy hands-on activities throughout their tour and sample a variety of historic goodies made in the kitchen. Visit the neighbouring Hamilton Military Museum for a self-guided experience with dress-up and engaging activities, while exploring the historical figures that lived in Hamilton during the War of 1812 and First World War.
